 Abstract:
»How did discourse of World War II in Japanese history textbooks evolve in the early 21st century? This research illustrates that the discourse on Japanese atomic bomb victims evolve little, but that on Korean comfort women are to be gradually silenced, especially at junior high school levels. This makes historical controversy in Asia. This book's perspective is that analysis of discourse about World War II in Japanese history textbook is limited to understand development of Japanese peace policy in the early 21st century. While French pedagogical theoretical framework ‘devolution' illustrates comparative perspective that Japanese youth need to develop historical thinking skills, it is difficult to simply implement within given its specific Japanese culture and structure. The contents designed to pass its university entrance exams does not allow Japanese adolescence to learn about horrors of war even that about atomic bombs in Hiroshima, traditional national identity and need for concerted shift toward transnationalism.«
